Once Upon a Mattress

This January 20-22, 2017, Nino joins Ephesus Teatron Group, Inc.’s production of the hilarious Broadway musical Once Upon a Mattress at the Tanghalang Yaman Lahi Theater, Emilio Aguinaldo College and directed by Steven Conde.

Once Upon a Mattress features Music by Mary Rodgers and Lyrics by Marshall Barer and Book by Jay Thompson, Marshall Barer, and Dean Fuller . It is based on the fairytale The Princess and the Pea by Hans Christian Andersen.

The original 1959 Broadway production featured Carol Burnett, and received two Tony Award nominations for Best Musical and Best Leading Actress. In 1996, Sarah Jessica Parker stepped into the leading role in a Broadway revival production together with Jane Krakowski which was nominated for the 1997 Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical.

Nino plays the role of the beleaguered Prince Dauntless whose domineering mother played by Milay Guinid will not let him get married and continues to put all potential brides/princesses through unreasonable and rigorous tests for his hand. Carla Guevera Laforteza and Cara Barredo alternate as the feisty Princess Winnifred (Fred for short) who wins his heart and eventually his hand in marriage. The show also features Yanah Laurel and Jill Ita-as as Lady Larkin, Hans Eckstein as Sir Harry, Raymond Concepcion as the King, Chino Veguillas and Arion Sanchez alternating as the Minstrel, Steven Hotchkiss the Jester, and Onyl Torres and Alex Dagalea as the Wizard.
